Epic Quest at Work

An Epic Quest is an adventurous journey to reach a goal.

In the Shape Good Habits world, that means reaching a goal of establishing a powerful new positive habit.

Teamwork

What happens when you form teams at work and travel this road together?

  • Everyone who participates gets to be supported to begin taking care of themselves. In some high stress environments, the permission for self-care is a huge culture shift.
  • When people connect with relative strangers as accountability partners, it creates a bond that is not laden with work expectations. Relationships are formed in a non-threatening manner.
  • The people who choose not to participate get to witness a gentle transformation among their co-workers.
  • Your team gets to find a good reason to celebrate together.

Benefits

The benefits are greater camaraderie among team members; new connections are made outside of already established relationships; a culture of self-care is established.

Individuals report increased ability to manage their temper; fewer aches and pains; and a sense of hope for excellent health.

Things To Remember

In setting up the Epic Quest as a team project, there are things to remember:

  • Do not coerce participation. If someone doesn’t want to play, let them sit it out. Do not let them seek to undermine it.
  • Set up teams across work groups. Be intentional about not putting people who are already friends on the same team. Part of the goal is getting to know the people on other shifts and teams.
  • Keep a leader board, with the reward going to the top scorers. You get to decide the parameters.
  • Teams get a point when every member reports to the rest of the team before midnight each day.
  • Make it light and fun and delightful. Celebrate every small win you see.

This is a simple and practical endeavor.
