In our Epic Quest, one of the exercises I invite people to do is to write out their “why”. Why do you want to accomplish the goal you’ve set?

A powerful why can pull us through. We will always find a “how” when our “why” is strong.

I don’t ask people to do something unless I am willing to do it myself.

So, here goes.

In my history, I found myself miserably unhappy in my relationships, physically deteriorating, and spiritually disconnected.

Yet, I was well-employed, had healthy children, and possibilities laid before me.

All I needed to do was turn my entire life around.

And, I did not know how. And, I did not know where to start.

So, I got stuck in indecision.

And, I am gloriously stubborn. So, I kept searching for the answer. The Golden Ticket to a wonderful life.

I discovered that turning my life around did not have to be a huge task.

Nature Always Responds to Nurture

When I took the smallest step in the right direction, everything got a little better.

Some of the little bitty things I’ve changed over the years:

  • I now make my bed when I wake up.
  • I no longer leave laundry for later. When the dryer is finished, clothes are automatically folded and put away, or hung up.
  • I empty the dishwasher first thing in the morning.
  • I write out a menu for tomorrow every evening.
  • I work on my major projects for at least 20 minutes a day.
  • I meditate every day.

Some of My Accomplishments

  • I have completed two masters and one doctoral degree.
  • I have dropped 85#.
  • I live in a much neater home.
  • My relationships are better.
  • I am spiritually connected to a power greater than me.

And I know that I can improve any other area I choose to, because I have the process ingrained in my body.

My life is very good now.

When I look back, I recognize all that I have done. And I know the struggle that it has taken me to learn the process.

Looking Back

When I look back, I recognize all that I have done. And I know the struggle that it has taken me to learn the process.

I wish someone had taught me how simple it can be.

I wasted so much time thinking that I couldn’t do anything right.

I spent too much of my life blaming other people for my misery.

I wallowed in helplessness and hopelessness for too long.

And this is why I do what I do.

I know the struggle is real.

The work is hard. Relationships are confusing. Health habits are easy to let slide, and the results of the slide take a long time. It’s hard to connect them to the little daily things over time. It seems our intellect gets it, but our heart doesn’t want to believe it.

And, I can mentor people (YOU!) to recognize the value and simplicity of developing good habits. One at a time over time.

Sharing

So, at this age I share my journey with you, and for you.

And I REALLY do it for ME!

Because I’ve worked hard for what I’ve attained. I want to KEEP my health habits. I want to KEEP my housekeeping habits. I want to KEEP my relationship habits.

They all take attention.

My goal is to live to 100 years or more.

My mantra is, “I am lean, healthy, strong, flexible, well-balanced and sharp-minded.” I say that daily and live the habits to support it daily.

I want to officiate my great grandchild’s wedding.

I don’t have great-grandchildren yet.

I want to travel the world.

I want to experience delight in helping others.

What’s Your Why?
